We use ontologies to annotate, index, and analyze Big Data in biomedicine for enabling data-driven decision making in medicine and health care. Our research group is part of the Center for Biomedical Informatics Research at Stanford and the National Center for Biomedical Ontology. You will contribute at all levels: designing prototypes, implementing robust code, coordinating other contributors, and monitoring daily operations. You will find this job to be a good fit if: * you think a terabyte of data is, meh, no big deal * you cringe at ugly code * you take transitive closures in your sleep * you feel passion for improving health care * you thrive in dynamic, fast-paced, somewhat unstructured environments You look forward to responsibilities that include: * basic database management * programming in Python, Java, R, C/C++ * basic Unix shell scripting and system administration * working with a small, core team of researchers * designing rapid prototypes and making some of them robust You meet all of the following minimal requirements: * 3+ years of serious coding experience * Strong working knowledge of relational databases and SQL * Fluency in Python, Java, R, and Unix * BS in computer science or related field You meet some of the desired qualifications: * Expertise in manipulation of large datasets (>1 TB) * Hadoop know-how * Ontologies, terminologies, UMLS, or Semantic Web * Statistics, data mining, and machine learning knowledge * MS or PhD in computer science or related field Interested?
