• In 2014, we described the vision of a ‘Green Button’ for using aggregate patient data at the bedside in Health Affairs.
  • In 2015, we outlined the steps in realizing the green button vision, and for bringing cohort studies to the bedside.
  • In 2016, we built a search engine for patient timelines for rapid phenotyping to build cohorts of similar patients.

  • In 2018, we outlined the methods that enable the informatics consult service and wrote a perspective on why a “speciality service” (and not a physical button in the EHR) is the right approach for realizing our vision.
  • In 2019, we completed the pilot study.
  • In 2020, we released the Advanced Cohort Engine for searching longitudinal patient records, which made the service possible.
  • In 2021, we published the results of the pilot study.
